Before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Russell was already a respected figure on the folk and roots music scene, performing with celebrated groups including Po' Girl, Birds of Chicago, Our Native Daughters and Sisters of the Strawberry Moon. Years of collaboration helped shape her distinctive folk, Americana, soul and roots sound.
Russell's breakthrough solo album, Outside Child, arrived in 2021 to widespread critical acclaim. An intensely moving record inspired by resilience and hope, it earned three Grammy Award nominations, including Best Americana Album, while the standout track Nightflyer received nominations for both Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song.
Across her career, Allison Russell has earned multiple awards: a Grammy, Canadian Folk Music Awards, two Juno Awards, and recognition from the Polaris Music Prize. She continues to tour and release music, don't miss her live on a stage near you!
